John Haynes – First Governor of CT Heritage

I am researching the geneology of John Haynes, the first governor of CT.  In particular, would like to find if he is related to John Haynes of Shropshire, England who was part of the rebellion against King James II, (failed attempt), sent to Barbados as an indentured servant and then released upon King William’s win of the thrown.  He took a boon of land from the King in South Carolina and created a rice farm which is now Rand O, South Carolina.  He dropped the “s” of the end to become John Hayne.  (I’d really like to know why that happened too).

Does anyone have knowledge of this or where I can find more information on the first Governor?
